Job Type Education -- Teaching
Job Position Teachers
Description We're building something special here, one student, one family and one teacher at a time!
Though our new school is beautiful, what best determines an excellent Catholic school isn't its physical features, but the quality and passion of its faculty and staff. We are unapologetically bold in our aspirations to hire the best teachers in the region!
Here's what we're looking for:
General Requirements:
• First, we want adults who are on fire to serve the Lord and can transmit this enthusiasm and commitment in a natural, authentic way to students, through the witness of their lives. Just as our mission is first to serve Catholic families, even as we welcome students from other faiths to join us, so too do we desire a "critical mass" of Catholic adults in the school, even as we welcome applications from excellent teachers and coaches from other Christian traditions.
• Second, we want teachers and coaches who are quick-witted and intelligent, who possess a depth of knowledge and experience in their subject or their sport. This means that teachers have a minimum of a B.S./B.A. in their major field of teaching, with advanced degrees preferred.
• Third, we’ll insist on teachers and coaches committed to the school’s “Renaissance” model: We don’t want football players OR scholars OR musicians OR students committed to their Church, but students who are immersed in combinations of these activities, leading them to a rich, full life.
• Fourth, we seek teachers and coaches who are versatile and hard-working. As a smaller school, we'll need teachers who coach and coaches who teach, or who are willing to be moderators of significant extracurricular activities, or lead our campus ministry programs, or get involved in the arts—to be the kind of “Renaissance” examples that we aspire for our students to be.
• Finally, we need teachers and coaches who love working with teenagers, who appreciate their quirkiness, their honesty, their sullenness from time to time, their sense of humor. Teachers and coaches must have a "with-it-ness" with teens.
• Beyond these five traits, there is no "ideal template" for our faculty and coaching staff--in fact, it's our hope that we'll assemble a group that is wonderfully diverse in age, experience, gender, ethnicity, interests and talents. The right kind of diversity promotes a healthy chemistry and adds "flair" to a school, making St. Michael much more interesting for students. "The body is one but has many parts..." St. Paul reminds us, "many gifts, but the same Spirit who distributes them." (1 Corinthians 12)
