Steubenville basketball great turned misfortune into opportunity for others
On Saturday, February 5, the families of “Big” Jim Smith Betsill and Hank Kuzma joined athletic staff at Franciscan University of Steubenville for Smith’s addition to the All-American Wall of the university’s Hall of Fame and the retirement of Betsill’s number. As a member of Kuzma’s winning College of Steubenville basketball team, Betsill scored 2,048 points and set a record for rebounds, with 2,334, but it was his work as a community activist for which many remember him.
